how's everyone doing? here we are again for another fun filled day of science excitement!!! I would also like to welcome the new revolutionaries to our group!!!

final reflections

These two years have been wonderful since being the TXESS Revolution. I have learned about Earth Science and Geology. It has actually triggered a great interest in me that has made me register for more Geology courses. I am looking at taking as many geology classes as I can now. The PDA’S and the summer institute were wonderful. I have also learned a great deal from my partners that I have had throughout the two years. Each person within the group has a little something to offer every time we would work on a given topic or assignment. The professors that have come to talk to us or teach something have also been great. Our primary professors have also been wonderful. I learned more about Geology in two years and still want to learn more. I enjoyed the projects that I got selected for. I hope that the group does stay in touch. Together as a cohort we can change and revamp the Earth Science Courses for future students and generations to come.

teaching philosophy

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

In education a teacher is supposed to “educate” the children of the present in order to have them for the future. The way this done is by now letting the teacher become a facilitator instead of the educator. Students are more receptive when they are also involved in the learning process. A student does not want to just sit in the desk and try to understand, a student would like to participate and actually learn a given subject. That is where a teacher needs to learn from the student how he/she is going to learn. As a facilitator, the teacher can also incorporate the student’s ideas into the learning process.

I had a really good time here...I made many new contacts and got many teacher resources. The amount of people here was unbelieveable. The exhibitors were wonderful...They had many avenues for students to go through as far as their studies after high school. They even had opportunities for teachers. Being a teacher here was great. Many of the exhibitors enbraced the teacher and gave us resources and research opportunities to last a long time. If anyone has questions for me let me know. I can pass on the activities and resources that I got to everyone. The only bad thing was that I could buy a thirty pack....I actually had to spend alot of money drinking......

recipe

First you need to get some chorizo and some oaxaca cheese. you need to put the chorizo in a skillet and cook it it until it is kind of crisp. then you can add the cheese and turn off the heat and let it melt with the heat of skillet. get some tortillas, corn is my preference, heat them up make yourself some taquitos with the choriqueso. hope you like it as much as I do.

This is the first day and we just arrived at the IRIS PASCAL institute. After a long two days of driving we finally made it. We are now going over what we have to do for this project. I will keep everyone posted on what we are doing from day to day. Today is waves and earthquakes lesson. Any questions feel free to email me. arratia@aol.com

REBEL 1 OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

understanding by design

question #1

Empathy and perspective are two facets that I do not really use and have not used. I could use these two facets alittle more in order to understand what vthe student is thinking. This couldalso tell me a little about the fact if the student as fully undrstood what is exactly going on.

question # 2

Probably the filters for understanding. I would need to get away from the restaints about the TEKS/TAKS in order tofully understand what exactly I need to know. This would help me teach what the student should know about the subject not what they tell me to teach.

science camp

I just recently held a science camp at my middle school. Ringgold Middle School at Rio Grande City was the sight for camp. It was offered to children ages 5 to 9. Explosions, rocketry, and just plain sticky fun experiments were presented to the children science teachers and my eighth grade helpers were the presenters. I plan on having a second one in the near future. We had a great review from parents and children.
