Glad to be back here as a member of Cohort C. I feel more confident coming into this than I did 2 years ago, that's for sure! I am looking forward to really being able to gather more units and nail down a curriculum proposal to teach this in my district. I will be taking the 8-12 composite this year, and my graduate program in the geosciences is underway. I hope to be be in the high school within the next 2 years, and I hope to be fully prepared to teach this course at that time. Until then, I continue to adapt for my 8th graders, as many of our topics align with their TEKS. I am so thankful to have such a wealth of knowledge and opportunity for community that TXESS Revolution, and more importantly, Kathy, Hilary, Eleanor, and Marsha continue to provide:). Welcome to all of our new revolutionaries--it's a fun, challenging, and rewarding ride...

My final reflections...

This is still a work in progress...

Still general, as I await time to discuss specific opportunities with key people.

I hope to add to mine in the near future...:)

Hey guys, if you could post your recipes (Cucumber lime smash--Hilary and the queso--Michael), I would greatly appreciate having something new to bring for the holiday! Thanks!

Still need to tweak a few things, but here are our mostly completed rubrics for the assessment....whew!

1.) Regarding the facets of understanding and my use of them in the classroom, I think that I could incorporate more empathy and interpretation in my classes. I feel that the students would relate more with the topics of study if they could not only learn the facts of the concepts but if they were able to delve a little more into the minds of the scientists that posed the concepts, they might gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of where those concepts fit in the global view. I would also like to foster more interpretation through the use of trade books and critical analysis of other types of scientific literature.
2.) I guess my main struggle today was just processing everything and seeing how all of it will fit together. That will simply be remedied as we get more involved this week, I'm sure.
3.) I think that this method will be a very effective tool to take back to my classroom, and I am looking forward to revamping the unit I have chosen!
Enjoyed it!

Well, I finally uploaded my lesson this evening...It is still not COMPLETELY where I would like it to be, but I am also a perfectionist, and I know it is still a work in progress. I still need to create the other models (on paper) for my plan that I would pass out for groups to reconstruct...Maybe I can get some help....:)
With me being gone tomorrow and Fri., I still have to finish typing my sub plan...We have our Science CBA tomorrow, so she will have to administer that, in addition to handing out IPRs, and the kids will also be finishing a lab after the CBA---YIKES...Fortunately, I have a REALLY good sub tomorrow...
I am really excited to stretch (well, "fry") my brain again this weekend. I really do enjoy being the student from time to time--there is so much more to learn...
Looking forward to tomorrow!
